Yoginis
by Debora Myers
Men and women must unite together in solidarity if we are to over-come
the double standard that has penetrated every aspect of our society
concerning our sexuality. For too long we have suffered with negative
labels if we are healthy sexual women that enjoy an active, fulfilling
sex life. For too long we have been shamed and disgraced by being sexy.
By allowing society etc. to take the "grace" away from our sexuality
we are allowing them to dishonor every person and the powers of creation
and birth.
The word whore has ancient Persian-Arabian origins. Houri were heavenly
nymphs or sexual angels who were dancing ladies of the hour who kept
time in heaven and tended the star- souls. In the ancient Hindu tradition
the earliest angels were heavenly nymphs "apsaras" who gave sensual
bliss to the blessed ones. In Viking, Greek, and in oriental tradition
there were many angels which gifted the blessed ones with love.

In ancient Tantric texts there were earth angels which were called "dakinis"
who were said to live in a palace of light. They were sometimes referred
to as prostitutes' daughters, or yoginis (yoga-priestesses).
With the coming of the patriarchal religions the heavenly sexuality
of angels was banished or made to be a negative attribute. This was
all done to control women and keep us as men's possessions by taking
away our sexual and political freedoms.
Celebrate and honor your sexuality. Nurture your caring, sexy, loving
energies! By repressing our most creative energy, our sexuality, we
harm ourselves and those around us. By being sexually responsive we
keep ourselves, our mates and therefore our families happy and intact.
Look at the high divorce rate and the problems facing our world today.
These problems are a reflection of what we as humans have become. We
must retain the sexual angels inside us and dispense our love with responsibility,
light, and love!
